Suggested Books and Reports for the Indian Educator

Recent publications which would be of benefit to the Indian educator have come to the JAIE editor's attention. These include:

The Peoples Guide To Setting Up a Contract School: A Resource Guide of Organizations and Materials--Part I, a sequential guide for the establishment and maintenance of contract schools as provided by the Indian Self-Determination and Education Act of 1975; Part II, a listing of the organizations that help set up and run a contract school; Part III, a listing of materials that could serve as an aid. The Guide is scheduled for publication in February by the Center for Indian Education, Arizona State University, Tempe 85281.

Career Development Opportunities for Native Americans is a recently revised booklet by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, available through any BIA agency or office. It includes educational opportunities, adult education/vocational-technical programs, college and university aids. The bibliography has a catalog of counselors' sources.

Alaska Native Land Claims is a book describing the land rights struggles of the Eskimos, Indians and Aleuts in the 1960s, and explains the complex claims settlement act by telling of its implementation to 1975.
